Amid the tragedies that have surfaced in Pakistan during the past days, after it was swept away by torrents and floods displacing a third of its population, a heart-rending video spread of a baby boy, who was said to have been found alive after being swept away by the water. A third of its population, a heart-rending video spread of an infant, who was said to have been found alive after being swept away by the water.
Thousands of people shared this clip on social media, confirming that the newborn child was found semi-buried in the soil while he was alive.
Others claimed that “his mother gave birth to him during the floods.”
Old and wrong
This clip has garnered tens of thousands of interactions on Facebook and Twitter, since it began spreading in late August, coinciding with the worst floods in Pakistan’s history.
However, the research revealed that the video was published in 2020 on Pakistani news sites, stating that it is of a child whose mother buried him alive after giving birth, in Khoshab, Pakistan. Until residents found him, they took him to the hospital, but he did not survive. The police opened an investigation into the incident at the time.
Perhaps what further proves that the clip is fabricated is the appearance of a man pulling the infant out of a “dry earthy ground,” and his umbilical cord is still attached, according to what AFP reported.
Flood disaster
It is noteworthy that the continuous rains in Pakistan since June caused the most severe floods in more than a decade, flooding a third of the country’s area and killing more than a thousand people.
Areas of basic agricultural crops were swept away and more than a million homes were destroyed or damaged.
