The number of people who lost their lives in the earthquake in Turkey has risen to 6,234. A 3-month state of emergency has also been declared in 10 cities severely affected by the earthquake.
In the latest statement issued by the Disaster and Emergency Department, “According to information from SACOM, a total of 6,234 citizens have lost their lives in the provinces of amber Marash, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya and Elazig.
Vice President Fuat Oktay, who gave information about the operation last night, said that there were 4 thousand 794 construction machines at the earthquake site and 3 thousand 251 people participated in the search and rescue teams from foreign countries. Oktay said that about 2,400 other search and rescue workers will come from foreign countries. Oktay stated that they will send approximately 1,500 additional search and rescue teams from Turkey to the field. And that 60,218 people were assigned from all units to work in the field.
Referring to the start of using all airports, Oktay emphasized that Adana Airport, in particular, is accelerating from the logistics aspect. And that 36 helicopters and many more planes are in the area today, and that work is done not only from the ground but also from the air, and that 16-17 helicopters with night vision continue to work.
The disaster management and aviation statement read: “31 governors and more than 70 governors have been assigned to the affected areas. With a total of 88 air force personnel affiliated with the Air Force, Land Forces, Coast Guard and the General Command of the Gendarmerie. And supplies from Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir to the region, an air bridge was established for the shipment of personnel and materials and evacuation to the region, 9 ships were commissioned by the Naval Forces Command and 1 ship by the Coast Guard Command, a total of 10. In addition, the TCG İskenderun ship was transferred, which was designated for evacuation, to İskenderun İsdemir Port and infected citizens were admitted on board.”
As for emergency assistance and support activities, a resource worth 100 billion liras has been allocated to the institutions in the first phase. In the health field, nearly 1,000 ambulances, 241 UMKE teams and two ambulance planes, a total of 5 thousand health personnel, have been transported to the region, while ships, planes and helicopters of the Turkish Air Force are involved in transporting equipment and personnel.
The wounded, who were recovered from under the rubble, are also being treated by sending them to hospitals in other parts of our country, especially in Mersin, Istanbul and Ankara, after their first intervention in the region.
Education has also been suspended until February 13 in schools across the country and until February 20 in schools in the disaster area. All appropriate public buildings have been designated for the needs of sheltering victims.
The 10 cities where the quake occurred have also been declared effective public life disaster zones. In order to ensure that search and rescue activities and subsequent work can be carried out quickly, a state of emergency decision has been made. The state of emergency will continue in 10 cities for 3 months.
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum stated that 13.5 million citizens were affected by the earthquake and said: “The process we are going through is the biggest disaster we have seen in the last century.”
Explaining the latest developments in the earthquake zone, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said, “There is no team that is not present in the field. It took some time before they reached the earthquake area from their location to the earthquake area due to the earthquake. disturbances caused by weather conditions. Many teams from Turkey and abroad are in service. 941 buildings that we were able to discover in Kahramanmaraş were completely destroyed. We have buried 600 of our compatriots so far. President Erdoğan also called for citizens to donate and said, “I call on our citizens and our business community who want to help heal the wounds of the earthquake to donate to the disaster and emergency management accounts. No fees will be charged.”
The Minister of Youth also participated and sports Mehmet Muharrem Kassab Oglu on his account on social media posted a list of the ministry’s facilities that serve citizens in the earthquake zones.
