Turkey announced its intention to grant its nationality to a certain group of Lebanese, during the visit of the Turkish official delegation last Saturday to the Lebanese capital, Beirut, after it was subjected to the Beirut port disaster.

The Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, who was at the head of the official delegation accompanying the Vice President, Fuat Oktay, stated that Turkey will stand with the Turkmens in Lebanon and throughout the world.

Chawish said: We will grant Turkish citizenship to the brothers who say we are Turks, we are Turkmen, and express their desire to become citizens of Turkey, adding that these are the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In his words, the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs means, according to Turkish law, the Lebanese who possess identification documents confirming their Turkish origins, and whose roots go back to the Ottoman Empire that ruled Lebanon between 1516-1917.

Many families of Ottoman origins are still in the countries that were under the Ottoman rule from 1299-1923, including in the countries that remained under the rule for nearly four centuries, such as: Lebanon and Syria, which has about a million Turkmen, Sudan and Palestine, and some of them are in the countries that were ruled by the state. The Ottoman Empire lasted about 350 years, including Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Kuwait, Somalia, and others, in addition to the Balkan countries, Greece, and other countries that were part of the Ottoman Empire.

Turkish law also allows a foreigner the right to apply for Turkish citizenship in the following cases:

Residence on Turkish lands, and the law specified the period of residence for 5 continuous years on Turkish lands, in addition to other conditions such as confirming the desire for actual residence through the purchase of real estate, or the establishment of any business or investment in Turkey, and others.

Marrying a Turkish citizen, male or female, is considered the easiest way to obtain citizenship, because the only condition set by the law is the continuity of the marriage for a period of 3 years, and that it be an official marriage, and does not pose any threat to Turkish national security.

-Naturalization by adoption, the foreign minor obtains citizenship immediately when this adoption is documented.

Granting exceptional citizenship by government decision. The executive authority and the Council of Ministers have the right to grant citizenship to any foreigner if he does not pose a threat to national security or public security, and who will provide great services to Turkey in various fields.
