The fact that wooden huts exceed $300 per night in Uzungöl, in the Caykara district of Trabzon, which hosts guests from the Middle East and Gulf countries with charter flights, has sparked a great deal of controversy.

Trabzon is characterized by its natural beauty, which is the focus of attention for local and foreign tourists in all seasons. The tourist center in the Çaykara region of Trabzon, Uzungol, is witnessing activity in the summer tourism season.

Wooden bungalows are also in high demand, with hotels and inns arriving at full capacity and hosting tour groups with charter flights from Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Israel, but huts rental rates exceed $300 per night.

While the prices were met with a great reaction from local tourists, the response to the criticism was from Mustafa Akyuz, director of the Uzungol Tourism Association. In his statement, Akyuz said, “We also paid the residence fees in dollars, because there is a huge demand from the Gulf countries. And when the Turkish lira depreciates against the dollar, it appears to be high for local tourists.”
