On Friday, the city of Istanbul witnessed the inauguration of the “Yere Batan” tank landmark, or the Submerged Palace, after its restoration.

At the opening ceremony, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (the largest Turkish opposition party), Kamal Kilicdaroglu, considered that the city of Istanbul is a global heritage that should be preserved.

“Istanbul is an ancient city that was the capital of three empires in history,” Kilicdaroglu said.

He stressed the need to protect the historical monuments in Istanbul and pass them on to future generations.

As for the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, he touched on the delicate restoration process of the historical and tourist landmark.

He also touched on the campaign: “150 projects in 150 days” to restore the monuments in Istanbul.

He promised that the city would witness many restoration activities in the coming days.

And “Yere Batan” is the largest underground reservoir among the many water reservoirs under the old city of Istanbul, and it was built in the Byzantine era near the Hagia Sophia Mosque today.
