An annual report on air quality in the world revealed alarming details about the most polluted countries, regions and regions in the world in 2022, and two Gulf Arab countries came in the list of the 5 most polluted countries in the world.
The most polluted countries in the world
In the report published by the Swiss company IQ Air on air purification issues, on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, which talked about the most polluted countries in the world for the past 2022, data was analyzed from more than 30,000 air quality monitoring stations across 7,323 sites in 131 country, territory and region of the world by the Swiss company air quality scientists.
The five most polluted countries in 2022 were:
1- Chad
The air in Chad contained 89.7 µg/m3 of pollution, 17 times higher than the WHO’s annual PM2.5 guidelines.
2- Iraq
The air in Iraq contained a pollution rate of (80.1 µg/m3), which is 16 times higher than the WHO’s annual PM2.5 guidelines..
3- Pakistan
The air in Pakistan contained 70.9 µg/m3 of pollution, 14 times higher than the WHO’s annual PM2.5 guidelines.
4- Bahrain
The air in Bahrain contained a pollution rate of 66.6 µg/m3, 13 times higher than the WHO’s annual PM2.5 guidelines.
5- Bangladesh
The air in Bangladesh contained pollution (65.8 µg/m3), 13 times higher than the World Health Organization’s annual PM2.5 guideline.
About 90% of countries exceed the specified percentage of air pollution!
The report confirmed that a total of 118 (90%) out of 131 countries and regions exceeded the WHO annual guideline for fine particulate matter PM2.5 of 5 micrograms / cubic meter annually.
The African continent witnessed an increase from 13 countries represented in 2021 to 19 countries included in a report during 2022, but at the same time Africa remained the most underrepresented continent, as only 19 out of 54 countries have sufficient data on air quality.
While Central and South Asia was home to 8 out of 10 cities in the world with the worst air pollution.
Pakistan’s Lahore is the most polluted metropolitan area in 2022, and it was ranked No. 15 in 2021.
While Chile in South America has become home to 8 of the 15 largest pollution in the Latin continent.
While Coffeyville, Kansas, was the most polluted city in the United States, in addition to Columbus, Ohio and California, Las Vegas was considered the cleanest major city in the United States.
