Today, Sunday, the Mufti of the city of Damascus, Abd al-Fattah al-Bazm, determined the legal amounts of weight and Syrian currency for gold, silver, almsgiving, fasting ransom, and expiation for breaking an oath for the year 1444 AH (2023 AD).

Al-Bazm said in a statement published on websites close to the Syrian regime: “Taking into account the conditions the country is going through, and pursuant to what is most beneficial for the poor, we are going to adopt the nisab of silver in order to achieve the public interest.” He specified the legal amounts according to the following:

  • The value of the ransom for fasting is 10 thousand Syrian pounds for each day as a minimum.
  • 10 thousand pounds for Sadaqah al-Fitr for each person.
  • The expiation for swearing an oath is 150,000 Syrian pounds (feeding ten poor people with two full meals, so that feeding one poor person is 7,500 pounds).
  • Zakat on money (85 grams of gold), and its price is estimated at 29,361,380 Syrian pounds.

Working hours during the month of Ramadan

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers in the government of the Syrian regime has determined the actual daily official working hours, during the blessed month of Ramadan, from nine in the morning until two thirty in the afternoon for ministries, departments and other public agencies.

She pointed out that the public authorities, whose nature requires continued work, determine the hours and times for the start and end of the daily work, as well as the organization of shifts according to their own regulations and according to the requirements of the public interest.
