The British Royal Mint issued a gold ingot bearing the image of the Kaaba in Mecca.

The 20-gram ingot, priced at £1,119.10, was issued ahead of Ramadan, which begins later this month.

Andrew Dickie, Director of Precious Metals at the Royal Mint, said: “Drawing on more than 1,100 years of mint experience, we have applied our expert craftsmanship to create a beautiful representation of the Kaaba, the holiest place on earth for many Muslims.”

He added: “The Kaaba ingot made of gold, which is contained in a beautiful protective packaging of an Islamic nature, provides a special gift, allowing our customers to present a precious gift of gold during Eid Al-Fitr, or as a safe investment by containing 999.9 grams of pure gold.”

As part of the launch, the Royal Mint donated three plates to be auctioned off at charity events, to raise money for victims of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria last month.

“Ramadan is a time for giving, so we are proud to support Islamic Relief, a leading Muslim charity, by donating Kaaba gold bars on three occasions in the UK, raising over £9,000,” said Dickie.
