Experts revealed the health risks resulting from drinking very hot tea, which has a temperature of 65 degrees Celsius and more.
And the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet indicates that the results of following up the health status of 500,000 people over a few years showed that drinking hot tea, whose temperature exceeds 65 degrees Celsius, increases the risk of esophageal cancer.
Professor Widad Geral, a gastroenterologist, points out that cancer deaths rank sixth in the world.
He says, “This is a serious disease, and it has a genetic basis. However, there are causative factors as well. According to recent studies conducted in eastern Turkey, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the risk of esophageal cancer increases when consuming very hot tea and other hot drinks in large quantities.

He adds, and this risk increases if the person smokes and drinks alcoholic beverages.
He says, “If a smoker drinks hot tea in large quantities, the risk of developing esophageal cancer doubles, and if he also drinks alcoholic beverages, it increases by five times.”
The professor advises not to drink tea that is too hot to hold the cup by hand, and instead wait a few minutes and then eat it, pointing out that there is no need to drink more than 3-4 cups of tea a day.
The professor also warns against consuming very cold (iced) water because it can cause ulcers in the esophagus, which later turn into cancer.
The expert points out that difficulty swallowing is the most important symptom of esophageal cancer, so when you feel this problem, you should immediately consult a doctor to conduct the necessary examination to diagnose the disease early in order to facilitate its treatment.
