A video clip published by the opposition presidential candidate in Turkey, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, has received more than 106 million views, despite the passage of 6 days since it was broadcast, after it was titled “Alawite.”
In the video, in an unprecedented situation in the history of the Turkish elections, Kilicdaroglu spoke about the sect to which he belongs, which is the Alevi sect, and said that he is “an Alevi and an honest Muslim.”
Candidates in Turkey avoid talking about sectarian and sectarian issues, and talk usually focuses on parties and the ideas they carry and programs.
Kilicdaroglu’s video sparked widespread reactions among the Turkish tweeters on his account, and they commented, saying:
“I am not interested at all, Mr. Kamal… It is enough to be a human being… From what sect do we belong to?… Wrong timing and useless tweet.”
“Shame on you, Mr. Kamal.. Are you not ashamed of polarizing society?”
On the other hand, Ahmet Davutoglu, a member of the Six-Party Table of the Future Party, came out with a similar video clip, titled it “I am Sunni”, and it garnered more than 8 million views.
Erdogan strongly criticized the hadith that his presidential rival came up with, and said: “We do not have a religion called Sunni, Shiite, or Alawite. someone against him based on his religion or sect.”
He added, “Why, when he reached the age of 74, did he feel the need to present his doctrine for public discussion?”
