Istanbul recorded a record number of foreign tourists coming to it during the first three months of 2023.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Culture and Tourism in Istanbul, on Friday, 3,480,630 people visited the city in the first three months of this year.

Last March, the number of foreign tourists reached 1,206,770.

According to the statement, most of the tourists to Istanbul came from Russia, Iran, Germany, the United States and England, respectively.

Earlier, the Turkish newspaper, Hurriyet, reported, quoting sources, that Moscow and Ankara had agreed to increase the number of flights for Russian tourists.

The newspaper confirmed this, citing information from sources in President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s administration, following his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She indicated, “Moscow and Ankara agreed to increase the number of flights for Russian tourists who wish to relax in Turkish resorts.”

The sources did not specify how much the number of flights would increase and at what point this would happen.
