The Turkish Ministry of Commerce warned shopkeepers who ignore price labels in tourist areas and stressed the need to clearly specify the price of the product in Turkish and its value in Turkish lira.

In a letter sent by the ministry to local commercial sectors, it was stated that the products sold in the tourist areas do not bear labels and that this situation causes unfair treatment of tourists and a loss of confidence in Turkish tourism.

She mentioned that the consumer protection law in Turkey stipulates that a sticker must be placed on goods offered for retail sale, and includes product features, selling prices, unit and the date of application of the price.

The ministry cautioned that if the item offered for sale is locally manufactured, it must be defined as a “local product.”

The ministry indicated that price lists should be placed in visible places on the products.
