Syrians who obtain Turkish citizenship can benefit from financial aid and discounts offered by the Turkish government to Turkish citizens, according to certain conditions.

Milk allowance (Süt Parası)

“Milk Allowance” or “Milk Assistance” is a subsidy provided by the Turkish Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services to newly-born Turkish women, who have insurance from the “Social Security Institution” (SSK) or the “Health Insurance Institution for the Self-Employed” (Bağ-Kur), Only once after giving birth.

The aid is paid to mothers after each birth, and amounts to 300 pounds for the first born, 400 pounds for the second child, and 600 pounds for the third child, according to the ministry’s website.

Mothers do not need to apply anywhere to receive the aid. The hospital where the mother is giving birth enters the information into the aid system, and the milk allowance is paid within about two months after the birth.

This aid can be obtained from the Turkish Post Corporation (PTT) by mentioning the national number or what is known as “TC”.

Food aid

The Turkish Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services grants aid during the month of Ramadan and religious holidays, to meet the basic needs of food and clothing for needy families, whose per capita income is less than a third of the net minimum wage (701.32) Turkish liras.

The required papers are the Turkish identity, and the amount of assistance is estimated by the Board of Trustees. Citizens who want to obtain heating aid can register with the “Social Yardımlaşma ve Dayanışma Vakıfları” in the area in which they reside.

Coal help

The Turkish authorities also give heating aid, including free coal aid, to needy families once a year before the winter season.

The amount of aid is determined at the discretion of the Board of Trustees, with a minimum of 500 kilograms.

Citizens who want to receive heating aid can register with the “Social Assistance and Solidarity Institutions” in the area in which they reside, or with the district mayors.

Free transportation card

Turkish mothers with children between the ages of 0 and 4 who reside in the state of Istanbul can move for free on public transportation within the borders of the state, according to the decision issued by the Istanbul Municipal Council, last July, to provide a free transportation card for mothers with children between the ages of Between 0 and 4 years.

It is possible to apply for a “Mother’s Transportation Card” (Anne Kart) through this link, and the card can be received by mail or through the nearest Istanbul Transportation Card application center.

The card, when filled with balance, can be used as a money card to pay when renting a municipal bicycle or pay at “Migros” or “A101” stores, according to the Istanbul Transportation Cards website.
